SERIES

This SALA series is a collection of 5 large works. For each of the 5 paintings, I have foraged gum nearby to my home. For example, I found some gum along the fence line at the Stonyfell Quarry. On each occasion I placed the gum in a small stone vase on my dining room table. I used the same vase for 4 of the works. And the same lighting.

I hurriedly left the house one day and quickly put my foraged flowers in a vase. A happy accident when I came home was that the arrangement was wonderful. Plus the light. The light on the my inherited dining room table seemed to work. Or rather the shadows! This series was a journey of chasing, and playing with, shadows on very familiar teak. So although some very familiar elements within my work are fully present- gum leaves, gum flowers, wood, and stone vessels, it’s all about the shadows this time.
